an action to recover Personal Property, which the plaintiff lost, and the defendant found, converted to his own use, and refused to return. The defendant's actions had to involve a serious interference with the plaintiff's possession because the damages paid to the plaintiff amounted to a forced sale of the property to the defendant. The defendant became the owner of the property after paying the damages. It was considered to be a form of Trespass or Trespass on the Case. The action later became known as Trover and Conversion or simply Conversion.
